Joey Thomas - Leader
The man who started it all!
Joey entered the U.S. Navy five days after graduation from Somers Central High School (North Westchester County NY) in June of 1961.
After auditioning and being accepted into the U.S. Navy as a musician, Joey attended and graduated from the U.S. Navy School of Music. Upon completion Joey was assigned to one of the Navy bands and was on five cruises on aircraft carriers, two cruises of which were on the U.S.S. Intrepid, which is now an Air, Sea, & Space museum docked in New York City.
As a member of Unit Band 146 out of Norfolk, VA. Joey spent all of his short military service playing music as an American ambassador of good will performing many concerts across Europe and the U.S. east coast.
After Joey's military service, he went on the road with many top 40 bands. One of the bands did shows with Dick Clark's Cavalcade of Stars in the late 60's. Then Joey moved back to New York in the 70's and has been in the capital region performing with many bands in the past 35 years. Some of the bands were "The Kings Four" & "Morgan BLVD" of which, were top 40 and party bands.
Joey retired from music in the late 80's for a few years, but the music bug bit him once again. This time he decided to put together the band of his dreams. So, in May of 1992 The Joey Thomas Big Band was founded.
Joey is now retired and is focusing on pushing the band to greater success and his ultimate goal of national acclaim!
Joey plays first tenor saxophone as well as flute, and clarinet.
