Mia Scirocco - Vocalist

Mia has her B. S. in both Studio Engineering and Music Education as well as her Masters of Science in Music Education from the College of Saint Rose. She is currently teaching High School music in North Colonie Central School District and teaching private vocal lessons, and has been, for over 11 years.

Her vocal studies began in the area of classical music, and from there, expanded into jazz, pop, rock and country. Although her vocal ability is classically rooted, her experience with other musical styles, especially big band jazz singing, is extensive; stemming back to Jr. High School where she performed regularly with the Scotia Glenville Jazz Ensemble and continued doing so throughout High School. Her love for big band jazz grew and she continued developing her style throughout her undergraduate career performing frequently, as well as recording with, the College of Saint Rose Jazz Ensemble.

Mia's professional recording experience started at age 13, when she recorded in NYC and Bearsville Studios in Poughkeepsie, NY for Joy Boy Records. Shortly thereafter, she began singing with several area bands performing and recording all styles of music. Through the years, Mia has also appeared on television singing live for such events as Talent contests and Telethons. In addition, she has been requested to perform the National Anthem at many other important events such as the Special Olympics, OTB Tennis Tournaments, and for the NBA's 76ers Professional Basketball team. She has had several opportunities singing live on the Radio for stations like WHRL and WAMC. Mia's voice may also be heard on other local radio stations performing jingles for capital district businesses in the area.

In addition to singing and teaching, Mia plays piano and guitar and has been composing and arranging for over 16 years. In 1994 Mia was asked to perform two original compositions for Zombie Records in NYC. Recently, she composed her first "Big Band" original tune and can be heard performing it with The Joey Thomas Big Band. Mia has been singing with The Joey Thomas Big Band for approximately 10 years.
